Although the web is a fantastic source of useful learning material, doing a general search for topics like "HTML5" or "CSS" can be a bit unsatisfactory. You get back millions of results, that may not really reflect your interests or intentions.
Social Search is a general term for an alternative to the main search engines, which can produce more effective results for some types of query.
StumbleUpon is a good example of this type of search - essentially this service lets you explore the web based on your interests, but also based on feedback about sites gathered from other users of the service. If you want to learn more, sign up now, and see what you find. In particular - set your interests to just "Web Development" - and nothing (for the moment). See if you can start to make sense of some of the sites you are presented with. For instance, here is a list of sites you are likely to "stumble upon" quite quickly - sites which could be very useful as you work on your project:
- CSS Cheat Sheet - very handy resource to print out and keep as you are learning CSS
- A Web Development Course - a bit like our course, complete with slides and podcasts
- Shapes in CSS - not very useful yet, but you never know
- Font Tester - a useful site for understanding the visualising the various font options in CSS
- Article - not very technical, but an opinion you might find interesting.
All the the above sites were located fairly quickly - however the search was limited just to "Web Development". See what you can find.
